US: Where I Am Now
I thought I would update you all at the same time as many of you have been asking where I am these days. Well, I'm staying with David (my brother) and his beautiful family in Denville, N.J. My house in Georgia is a mess and will need some work before I can put it on the market. Most of my "things" are still there — in Georgia — so I travel pretty light these days, with only what fit in my car (including three people) for the ride up north. It's an interesting way to live I can tell you that. It also makes everything seem so unreal.I'm doing okay, with the help of family and great friends. I take every day as it comes as that is all I can do at the moment. Yesterday I attended a Brunner family gathering in honor of Chris, seeing so many people that I hadn't seen in years. It was great to see them all again, especially his son, Matt. I really, really wish though that it had been under happier circumstances — as his brother Michael said to me, "this was supposed to be a welcome home for the two of you." So from the bottom of my broken heart I want to thank you all for the cards, emails, Facebook messages, text messages and voicemails (though I think my inbox is now full, sorry). It has now been a month and although I am still struggling to find my way — and to wrap my head around what has happened — I will do my best to start responding. These last four-plus weeks have been a haul, but I won't apologize, I've been told constantly that I need to take care of myself first then do what I can when I feel I can. It's a hard thing for me to learn, but I'm trying. Chris would say I'm very trying. That was his humor. I miss him more and more as the days go by.Love,
Joanne

Farewell my love
It's been two weeks since I was given the shocking news that Chris, my life partner of 15 years, had passed in our home in East Point, Georgia. And I apologize to those of you just now hearing of this tragedy, but it has been an extremely hard couple of weeks for me even with the tremendous love and support of close friends and family — all of whom want to protect me and shelter me from questions, emails and text messages in order to give me some time to try and heal. I am not saying that I am ready as yet for an onslaught of any of those as the event still feels too fresh and unreal to me, but I thought I should pass along the information as I have gotten a few questions in the past couple of days asking how "we" are doing. I wish I could talk to you all individually, but, well, I just can't.
To those who knew, thank you again for your help, prayers, thoughts, and generosity. I would never have made it through the last couple of weeks without you.

USA: Sad, Sad news
Sandy and Robert's beloved Leslie was lost in a tragic motorcycle accident Monday afternoon in Sterling Heights, Michigan. She was only 29 years old and in the words of Sandy, referring to Robert's relationship with Leslie, "she was like his daughter." That's Sandy, thinking of our Bobby, when she is going through so much pain herself.
I'm sure I can speak for the rest of the clan when I say our thoughts, prayers and all our love go out to you both.

Helicopter Sunday
The helicopter has landed and Rangers have won the SPL for the 54th time — yes, a world record, take that Yankees! I awoke to the sounds of rapid fire text messages from my pal James Lewis as Rangers had score three times in the first 7 minutes of the match. I sat and waited for more and they kept coming. I even got a few from Susan, who messaged me that she and Dad (and presumably, Eric, Margaret, Allan, Anne, Myra and Alan) had difficulty finding a pub in England that was showing it. Luckily they found one and didn't miss a minute.
Did you watch?

The Royal Wedding
Hello Milne Clan!
With family members all over the world I thought it would be interesting to find out who among us will be tuning in to the much-anticipated nuptials at Westminster Abbey tomorrow. And if so, what, if any, plans you have. Don't be shy!
I'll get us started. I will be watching. I watched Diana get married when I was a young teenager, so I'll be happy to rise in the wee hours to see her eldest son take his vows as well. Let's just hope Kate remembers the order of all his names! This means Chris and I will be up sometime between 4 and 5 a.m. to start breakfast and follow the events on television.
Later in the day, my co-workers have organized a royal wedding potluck. The twist is that it'll be a southern-style (American) potluck. I can't wait to see what that even means! And I've still to figure out what I'll be contributing.
Looking forward to hearing your plans or your pans! Either is welcome.
Cheers,
Joanne

Baby on the Way!
Congratulations Corey, Jason and Audra Wimmer who are expecting baby No. 2 in mid-December. Wishing you all the best for a happy and healthy pregnancy.
For those outside of the U.S. and Canada, Corey is the daughter of Dave & Moira Hair, Moira is the daughter of Jean & Jack Porteous, and Jack is the late-great Jessie Gallan's son. This branch of our clan resides in Pennsylvania. Jessie and her husband Johnnie (pictured, with Jack) were the sponsors for my parents coming to the States back in the early '60s.

NZ: Where We Are
Hi there,
Thought I'd take a photo of our place so you can see for yourself that where we are is fine.
I have posted on Facebook some photo's of Chch, they are amazing, check them out.
We woke this morning to a 4.1 mag & the last 10 mins have sent us a few rocks so it's still very much happening still.
Taylor ended up at emergency Dr last night, he has dropped a growth plate on his hip so he's on crutches, don't know how long for at this stage, the Dr didn't really know too much about it last night, had to check with Orthopaedic at hosp. will probably get it all checked out at hospital. He couldn't move his leg at one stage. Just what we need haha
The dogs were doing fine but have started to panic again this morning because we've had a few.
Just as one came thru before the phone rang, it was Hugh ( John's brother ) in Scotland haha John was out on his garden seat working away, I told Hugh I'd have to go see if he was still on his perch hahaha
All's ok though.
Thistledaeme looks good on the house pillar, so pleased with that.
Will keep you all posted.
Love to all
Linda

NZ: Follow-up from Linda
Hi there,
well we are just getting up, woke a couple of hours ago to another shock going thru the place.
We are all fine , have water, power, sewage so we are the lucky ones, especially still having each other as there are so many people in a bad way.
The houses are fine, I think Greig's could have done without this happening again but ok.
All the kids are good, Thorvin & Summer being the only ones who are a bit panicky when each shake happens, they have been thrown around too many times now.
The city as you will all have seen on TV is a disaster, we still don't know who has been killed but Jonnie's ( Lorna's partner ) brother has lost his mother in law, hasn't been found as yet or if so not identified so we feel for them all.
It's taking such a long time for them to recover people but is totally understandable.
Our dogs were just getting back to a bit more normal till a couple of quakes hit last night around 4.4 mag so that has them rattled once again. Sedatives helped them sleep the night but woke at 5.50am to yet another, they'll be OK.
John didn't get his op, he was hanging out for , on Thursday so he's still having to put up with the pain he's had for so long now. His rotator cuff is causing problems, has torn muscles.
Ah well time to go get myself ready for the day ahead.
So once again no need to worry, we are all doing ok, Lorna getting larger by the minute, Greig txt when the 4.4 mag went thru last night asking if that was her falling over hahahaha. See we still have our sense of humour hahahaha
Love to you all

NZ: A Message from Linda
Hi there, short message to let you know we are all ok, which is more than we can so for a lot of Christchurch people.
This was such a bad quake & terrible destruction.
The city was a mess before but it's in such a state now, gonna be along time before its all sorted.
Wasn't as hgih as last one but stronger as it was shallower.
We couldn't get a hold of Karen & kds for hours as she was away collecting them.
Anyway we are all fine & John & I are the only ones without power.
The dogs are just about to have a heart attack, shaking like anything.
Greigs got more damage, Lorna has some damage & don't know about Karens yet.
I am on Lornas comp. different kepboard so excuse the mistakes.
anyway we'll keep you in touch on FB etc.
Love you all

NZ: Deadly Earthquake hits Christchurch, Russells all okay
By now you've probably heard about yesterday's 6.2 magnitude earthquake in Christchurch. The damage is definitely devastating and my heart goes out to the families who lost love ones — the count is 65 at the moment and expected to rise. Selfishly I am happy though for, thankfully, our family down there are all well. Dad and Susan received a call from Linda early this morning (U.S. east coast time) to confirm that fact.
If you haven't been keeping up with the rumblings in that area of NZ, they have had literally thousands of small earthquakes and "aftershocks" since last September. Many of those aftershocks were bigger than any earthquake most of the rest of us have ever felt. There is even a website that is just devoted to news of these quakes and shocks (http://www.earthquake-christchurch.com/).
To the Russells, glad to hear you are okay. We're thinking about you.

UK: The lost Christmas photo
Receieved the annual Landsburgh Christmas photo from Uncle Alan a few days ago, and I thought I'd share it here as I did last year (good for you for keeping up the tradition Alan!). Sounds like all are well in merry old as the retired while away the time with golf and artistic endeavors. Sounds like heaven (except for the golf part, sorry Aunt Myra).Ine the photo, left to right: Niamh, Cathy, Dave, Claire, Gordon & Sarah (in the background), Bethan, Steven, Myra and Alan. Sorry poochie, I don't think I know your name.
